The city of San Sebastián in Spain – one of this year’s European Capitals of Culture – has plenty of treats in store for 2016, not least in its fabulous tapas bars.
In San Sebastián, the year never gets properly under way until midnight on January 19, when the massed drums of the Tamborrada thunder from Plaza de la Constitución, starting celebrations in honour of the city’s patron saint. With the fireworks of Las Fallas, Valencia may have Spain’s biggest bangs, but the Tamborrada outdoes it for sustained booms, the drummers beating their way around the city for a full day. (…)
